BrainSentry

Developing AI for earlier stroke recognition and triage

BrainSentry is a Synapse Foundation research program exploring how an ordinary smartphone could help recognize possible stroke signs and connect people with appropriate care.

We are bringing together AI development, clinical research, and hospital partnerships to study whether this approach can work safely and effectively in everyday settings.

From a smartphone to clinical research

Our initial research focuses on facial movement and speech captured through a smartphone’s camera and microphone.

We are developing a proposed study with Indonesia’s National Brain Center Hospital (RSPON) in Jakarta. The draft protocol covers model development and evaluation without using its outputs to guide patient care.

Inside the research platform

In this November 2026 demonstration, Nikhil Ramlukan walks through the study platform using synthetic data. The video shows a prototype research workflow; it does not demonstrate clinical accuracy or validation.

Built around local clinical practice

Clinical partners help shape the study design, recording procedures, and approach to evaluation. The proposed research framework keeps raw study data in Indonesia and places local clinical expertise at the center of the work.

A broader vision

Our longer-term ambition is to explore personalized monitoring, guided checks, and connections to stroke-capable facilities. These remain research goals that require clinical evaluation.

BrainSentry is currently in research and development. Our focus is building the evidence and partnerships needed to determine how it could contribute to stroke care.
